Monday, January 29 - Cast Lists Posted on the Crimson
Call Board
All scholarship students not cast in a production need
to immediately contact Doug to sign up for a tech
position.
NOTES ON AUDITONS:
Actors cast in the Shakespeare production can also be
cast in Woyzeck or Blue Room. Actors
will NOT be shared between Woyzeck and Blue Room.
All actors are urged to
come to auditions with a CLEAR understanding of all
conflicts and scheduled events.
Actors will be required to fill out an audition form at
each audition. A resume is helpful, but not required.
Actors will be notified via e-mail if they are needed
for call-backs. Get used to checking your e-mail.
Casts lists will be posted on the Crimson Call Board.
Shakespeare: Othello and
Hamlet
Directed by Dr. Bill Wallace and Michelle Anisette
Both productions will audition at the same time. Actors
should expect monologues and cold readings from each
script. The directors plan to have sign up sheets for
specific audition time slots, as well as open times
available for anyone to audition when it’s convenient
for them. Call backs will be at separate times, and
actors will be notified if they are needed for call
backs. Approximately 3 actors are needed for Othello and
25 for the company of Hamlet.
The Blue Room
Directed by Leanna Wilson
The Blue Room follows a chain of sexual encounters
between an intriguingly diverse selection of characters
– a prostitute and a cab driver, a politician and a
model, an actress and an aristocrat – and the journey
that they take, individually and collectively, in their
relationships, whether relationships of love or lust.
When Arthur Schnitzler’s La Ronde, from which this play
was adapted, premiered in Vienna in 1921 the play was
closed down by the police, and the actors in its first
Berlin production the same year had to endure a six-day
trial on charges of obscenity.
A series of sexual encounters: erotic, illegal, vulgar,
gentle, corrupt, dishonest, The Blue Room promises an
unforgettable evening of thought provoking and
challenging theatre.
Actors should expect to find themselves in PG-13
situations. The rehearsal schedule will be relatively
light due to the set up of the show. The cast will
consist of five men and five women. Bring conflicts and
British accents to auditions if you have them. Auditions
pieces will be provided. (Every scene is between a male
and a female, so if you would like to be guaranteed a
scene partner, bring one of those too).
Woyzeck
Directed by Professor Janeve West
Seen as 'working class' tragedy, Woyzeck has been
considered a “difficult work to categorize.” Written in
1836, it has become one of the most performed and
influential plays in the German theatre repertory and
today is considered to be the first truly “modern” play.
Woyzeck concerns the dehumanizing effects of society on
the working class, and is the story of a soldier driven
mad by inhuman military discipline and social
deprivation. It is loosely based on the true story of
Johann Christian Woyzeck, a Leipzig wigmaker who
murdered Christiane Woost in a fit of jealousy in 1821
and was subsequently publicly decapitated. The
production itself was unfinished and unorganized at the
time of the playwright’s death. Often reorganized by
directors and cast members, the splintered dialogue and
jagged episodes are as stunning today as they would have
been a hundred years ago.
Actors are urged, but not required, to come to both sets
of Woyzeck auditions, to be prompt and to remain for the
entire time. It is requested that actors dress in
comfortable attire (sweats and tennis shoes) and be
ready to move. The audition will consist of movement,
improvisation and cold readings with scripts provided.
All actors should come to auditions with a CLEAR
understanding of their schedule. A resume would be
helpful, but is not required. The director is looking
for a company of 8 - 12 actors.
