Franklin Center for Government and Public Integrity, “Partnership in Excellence” program The Franklin Center is a leading non-profit journalism organization, is proud to announce the second year of the “Partnership in Excellence” program. This program pairs journalism students with working reporters to produce joint investigations on local and state issues. By working with seasoned journalists, these students have the chance to get real world experience by learning first-hand how to conduct interviews, research and write quality stories. Last year, Partnership in Excellence paired veteran reporters with a journalism class at Columbia College in Chicago. The reporters, who served as mentors to these budding journalists, produced a major investigation of the scandal-plagued legislative scholarship program in Illinois. Through their collaboration, they uncovered hundreds of cases where state lawmakers were funneling full-ride, taxpayer-paid scholarships to the children of major campaign contributors. This year, Franklin Center will be expanding Partnership in Excellence and making this vital program a national initiative. Franklin Center looks forward to introducing non-profit journalism to additional students and providing the future journalists of America the opportunity to learn from the best.
