CATA Professional Portfolio Evaluation Procedures

CATA Class of 2009 Portfolio Mentors & Evaluators

Evaluation Procedures:

  1. By the end of the fall semester, each student CATA major will be expected to obtain a review of his/her portfolio with his/her CATA faculty mentor. Take his/her advice!!

  2. By Monday, January 26, 2009, each senior portfolio must be ready for evaluation by the two assigned CATA faculty members.  The evaluation will be guided by the CATA portfolio rubrics for your concentration and will use a 5 point scale. Links to the evaluation rubrics are found below.  Use those evaluation criteria as you write and edit your reflection statements.

  3. Evaluation will NOT involve "re-grading" artifacts but will, rather, focus primarily on the students' understanding of how goals have been met and demonstrated in the artifacts as revealed in reflection statements.

  4. Once each faculty evaluator has scored each goal (i.e. I.A, II.C, etc..) for a portfolio, the two evaluators will meet to discuss their scores and reach a "consensus" score for each goal. These scores will determine the portfolio grade and will be recorded for assessment purposes.  The evaluators will also prepare comments to accompany the scores as feedback to the student.

  5. An acceptable portfolio will achieve a 3.0 or better average score on each major goal category (i.e. I, II, III, IV and IV) and no more than one score less than 2.0 on any specific goal (e.g. II.B.) in each category.

  6. Results of portfolio evaluations will be available to students by February 23 or before.  Should a student's portfolio receive less than a passing score, that student will have until March 2 to make revisions and correct deficiencies at which time the evaluators will review the portfolio for a second time.  Normally the department will not review a portfolio more than twice in a single semester.  Students who do not pass the portfolio on the second attempt can expect to register for and repeat CATA 421 at a later time.
