Honor Students through the years

Each spring the Accounting Department selects its top accounting student based on a combination of academics in the department as well as leadership activities at the college and the department. These students are formally recognized for their excellence at the college's Honors Convocation on Founder's Day in April.




Ashley Yeast 2008 Honor Student Current Employer: Deere & Company Moline, IL Title: Consolidations FDP Accountant Responsibilities: Consolidate unit, financial services, and corporate actual results for U.S. and Canada: Prepare various reports, reconciliations, and analyses for actual results (up to worldwide in scope); Prepare external financial statements; calculate profit sharing expenses (forecast and actual). Erin Luder 2007 Honor Student Current Employer: Assurant, Inc. West Des Moines, Iowa Title: Associate Accountant Responsibilities: Balance daily tax payments and work with fixed asset entry and depreciation. Activities while in college: Accounting lab instructor/tutor, Accounting Society 06-07 Vice President and 05-06 Secretary, 2007 VITA Coordinator Assistant, Circle K, Alpha Lambda Delta, National Society of Collegiate Scholars, Blue Key, Mortar Board



Sara Tyson Fitzjarrald 2006 Honor Student Current Employer: Bridgeway, Incorporated Macomb, Illinois Title: General Ledger Accountant Responsibilities: Prepare and enter journal entries, reconcile cash accounts, maintain and reconcile accounts receivable, prepare monthly reports to distribute to Management Council, and assist in the budgeting process. Activities while in college: Math and accounting tutor, accounting lab instructor, Accounting Society 05-06 President, VITA Volunteer, Student Technology Assistant, member of Alpha Lambda Delta and Sigma Omicron Mu



Andrea Geren 2005 Honor Student Current Employer: Farmers & Merchants Bank & Trust Burlington, Iowa Title: Staff Accountant Responsibilities: Prepare yearly budget; Perform departmental cost accounting; Prepare board reports; Manage accounts payable; Serve on the ALCO committee; Assist with pricing of CD and loan products; Reconcile the bond portfolio and cash due from banks; Pay Federal, Franchise, and Sales/Use Taxes; Manage the bank's Asset/Liability software and reporting; and other projects as assigned. Activities while in College: VITA volunteer, Accounting Society, Sigma Omicron Mu, Circle K, Transfer Student Organization Vice President, National Society of Collegiate Scholars, National Scholars Honor Society



Jessica DeVore Johnston 2004 Honor Student Current Employer: Caterpillar, Inc. Peoria, IL Title: Debt & Investment Accountant Responsibilities: Administering and Monitoring Inter-company Loan activity; Responsible for all Corporate Offices long-term debt; Responsible for Corporate Office sale of receivable activity. Activities while in College: Accounting lab instructor, Kappa Kappa Gamma (President, Recruitment Chair, Corresponding Secretary), Mortar Board, Blue Key, Accounting Society Vice-President, Resident Assistant



Kim Baumruck Kaminsky 2002 Honor Student Current Employer: Capital Guardian Trust Company Irvine, CA Title: Senior Accountant Responsibilities: Global billing system implementation; Gather regulatory, legal and business requirements from our Geneva, Singapore and Tokyo offices; Coordinate training; Data analysis and system testing Activities while in College: Pi Beta Phi, Monmouth College Pipes & Drums, Accounting Society, Accounting Lab Instructor, VITA, Alpha Lambda Delta and Blue Key Honor Societies



Charlotte Vos 2001 Honor Student Current Employer: John Deere Moline, Illinois Title: International Accountant Responsibilities: Provide guidance to international units with the conversion from local GAAP to US GAAP; Coordinate the international consolidation of financial results; Prepare conversion to US dollars from foreign currency. Activities while in college: Accounting tutor, Accounting Society, Blue Key, VITA volunteer



Wendy Wilhelm Schaub 2000 Honor Student Current Employer: Cilfton Gunderson, LLP Peoria, Illinois Title: Manager, Firmwide Tax Services Responsibilities: Work with the Director of Tax on all firm tax administration needs such as administering internal tax inspection program, serving as main resource on complex research projects, assisting in development and serving as main resource for firm tax tools, writing and updating tax manual and internal tax policies, coordinating and developing internal tax continuing education programs, working with external vendors on firm products and contracts, as well as preparing client tax returns. Activities while in college: Scot Ambassador, Hall Council Representative, VITA Volunteer, Blue Key National Honor Fraternity Treasurer, Commerce Club, Accounting Society Secretary, Students Organized for Service (S.O.S.), Mortar Board and Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society.
