Directors Guild-Producer Training Plan: Assistant Directors Training Program:  the A.D.T.P. recruits a divers group of applicants from across the United States and provided selected candidates with education, training and paid experience in professional settings, facilitating their development into successful Assistant Directors.  The Training Program's ultimate goal is to proved the Director's Guild of America and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers with Assistant Directors of the highest quality and professionalism.

Phillips Collegiate Journalism Award recognizes excellence in well-sourced news stories or analytical reports in colligate publications that demonstrate an understanding of the basic ideas supporting a free society, including freedom of the press, freedom of speech and free market economic principles.

Purdue University:  The Department of English and Philosophy at Purdue University Calumet wishes to announce the 14th annual Undergraduate Conference.  This year we are calling for abstracts of papers in American studies, communication, history, (American and World), philosophy, political, science, popular culture, psychology, rhetoric and composition, sociology, and women's studies written by undergraduates. 

 

Abstracts must be postmarked no later than January 31, 2006.  The conference will be held on Friday afternoon, April 21 and Saturday April 22, 2006.

 

Abstracts should be no more that 250 words, double spaced, and should include:

WEIU Paid Internship:  WEIU-TV will give qualified upper-class students a full-time HANDS-ON Internship to create television news for our 5:30 weeknight broadcast.  Through the WEIU-TV Broadcast News Summer Internship Program every intern works full-time to prepare, create, and deliver broadcast news.

Hearst Newspapers:  Applications for the year 2006 will be accepted through December 1, 2005.  In January 2006, a panel of Hearst editors and non-Hearst judges will select finalists to be considered for up to eight available openings.  The finalists will participate in a screening and interviewing process, and as many as eight people will be selected by the first week in April.  After a short orientation program at the end of August, each of the individuals selected will complete three to four job rotations over a two-year period in small, medium and large markets.  At the end of the two-year fellowship, editors will have the opportunity to offer jobs to the program participants.

Perfecting Phronesis:  How to Know What YOU Know, How YOU Know It, and How Communication is an Epistemic Process

 

 

 

 

The key to being a knowledgeable and literate person in society and in our chosen professions is to know how we learn the information we accept as legitimate.  This presentation will discuss what role the media (television, radio, film, recorded music, and internet) play in constructing the information that most Americans use to shape their lives and decisions.
