Master of
Arts Communication Studies,
Northern Illinois University:
The Department of
Communication offers a Master of Arts degree in communication
studies. Graduate course work is available in media studies,
and journalism. In consolation with faculty advisers, students
may design programs of study that meet their individual needs and
academic background. A program of courses could focus, for
example on organizational communication, on documentary film, or on
political rhetoric.

The Institute
for Humane Studies at George Mason University in Virginia
offers a variety of policy and media related internships and
fellowships, most with substantial stipends in areas such as
documentary and investigative television journalism, market-based
policy institute summer projects, daily newspaper intersnships and

| An
intercultural communication course will be taught for the ninth
time this summer in London from July 6 to August 6. Students
earn 6 hours of undergraduate or graduate credit. Field trips to
observe discourse and engage in social interaction have taken
students to Parliament, the criminal courts, ethnic communities,
Speaker's Corner, the British Museum, the Museum of Welsh Folk Life,
outdoor markets, public parks and plazas, a senior citizen daycare
facility, and a comedy club. Lectures by British faculty describe
and analyze forms of communication exhibited by social, cultural,
and ethnic groups of Great Britain. Monmouth CATA
students have participated in this program in the past and have
recommended it highly.

the internship program: The Steppenwolf Theater
Company Internship Program allows students, graduates, and others to
experience the inner workings of professional theatre from every
angle. All internships at Steppenwolf provide hands-on
experience. Through daily assignments and duties with a given
department, bi-weekly intern seminars with guest speakers, volunteer
opportunities in many areas of the theatre, and free ticket
productions, interns are offered the chance to learn from the finest
professionals working in theatre today.

| Chautauqua Theatre
Company: Now in its 23rd season, is the residential
professional theatre and conservatory of the Chautauqua Institution.
Internationally known guest artist actors, directors, designers,
writers, and faculty join 16 of the finest emerging actors in
America to produce three full productions, two staged readings of
new plays, and a host of related events in the newly renovated,
award winning Bratton Theatre.

| A Christmas Carol:
The
Monmouth College Theatre and the Buchanan Center for the Arts are
proud to co-sponsor a production of the timeless holiday classic, A
CHRISTMAS CAROL. Performances will be at 7:30 pm on Thursday,
December 8th, 7:30 pm on Friday, December 9th,
and two shows, 2:00 pm and 7:30 pm on Saturday, December 10th.
Performances are at the Wells Theatre, located at 9th and
Broadway on the Monmouth College campus. Tickets are $4 for MC ID.
Tickets may be reserved by contacting the Buchanan Center for the
Arts at (309) 734-3033 or
bca2@frontiernet.net. Seating is limited, so you are encouraged
to reserve tickets early. As available, tickets may also be
purchased at the door. Over 70 actors, singers, dancers are in the
show, and a cast list is attached for your perusal. This should be a
great way to take a break before exams… |

Internship: Cal Ripkin
Youth
Baseball League (made up of approx. 800 kids)
in Galesburg
Duration: January thru July (intern must be locally available
for entire duration)
Hours: Flexible. Intern must be comfortable promoting the
organization and the great things that it is accomplishing in
the community. The organization also seeks to redeem its
reputation through PR. Intern would provide advice and guidance
to organizational leaders. Intern would be responsible for
score reporting to the Galesburg Register-Mail. Intern would play a large
role in setting up opening day ceremonies.
*This
organization is willing to accommodate any departmental
requirements for the student to receive credit.

just started work as an "Account Executive" for Prairie
Radio Communications in Galesburg.
He writes, "I'm basically an advertising
salesman. Even though I've just started the job, I've
already done things like writing commercials. I don't know
if it's for me yet, but hey, it's a job. Thanks

Membership in LPE requires a student to:
have completed at least 60 semester hours in college; have completed at least 12 semester hours of communication study
(not including theatre courses); have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0;
have a communication studies GPA of at least 3.25; be in the upper 35% of their graduating class;
be currently enrolled as a student in good standing;
(Monmouth College has one of the first ten LPE chapters chartered). |
