Remember, you do
not have to know the location of your internship
or have it all set up in order to apply. You
should, however, have a discussion of your plans (or
hopes or confusions) with one of the CATA faculty
members. And you should try to be as thoughtful and
specific as you can concerning your goals.
[ Applications are
sometimes returned for further work, usually because
directions weren't followed, the application form is
incomplete, or the writing and format is sloppy,
incoherent, ungrammatical, etc. We expect this
application to demonstrate you are ready to work in
a professional setting where details often count for
a lot.]

Intercultural Communication Course to be Taught in
London
July 6 to August 5
An intercultural
communication course will be taught for the ninth
time this summer in London from July 6 to August 5.
Students earn 6 hours of undergraduate or graduate
credit. Field trips to observe discourse and social
interaction have taken students to Parliament, the
criminal courts, ethnic communities, Speaker's
Corner, the British Museum, the Museum of Welsh Folk
Life, outdoor markets, public parks and plazas, a
senior citizen daycare facility, and a comedy
club.
Lectures by British
faculty describe and analyze forms of communication
exhibited by social, cultural, and ethnic groups of
Great Britain. In past years Michael Argyle, George
Brown, Adrian Furnham, Robin Goodwin, Robert Hinde,
Adam Jaworski, Itesh Sachdev, Crispin Thurlow,
Aldert Vrij, and Angela Williams have spoken to the
class. Students stay in a conveniently located
central London residence hall and have opportunity
for recreation, sightseeing and travel.

WHAT'S HAPPENED
SINCE
GRADUATION
I have moved to
Bloomingdale, IL and now live with two other MC
graduates, Jeff Malek '06 and Mike Wilmoth 06'.
I currently work full time for the company ADP.
I am currently
working as a client representative for ADP
(Automated Data Processing). ADP is one of the
world's largest providers of computerized
processing and information-based business
solutions such as payroll, benefits, and human
resource. My job is to handle client inquires
and interactions, and to effectively communicate
with the clients in order provide the correct
solution. Monmouth College prepared me most
through the communication classes I took.
Interpersonal and Small-Group Communication were
vital for me in order to succeed in my job. I
work with a small team and constantly have to
communicate with them as well as clients.
Advanced Public Speaking also has helped,
because I have had to learn the language of the
business and use it to productively create
messages and speak with confidence to clients.
The company has a large multimedia team that I
have already been in contact with. I hope to one
day move up and start working in that area.
