Topic Research Report
(No more than 2.5 minutes, no less than 1 minute)

This assignment asks you to describe your experience doing research on the speeches topic and what you've learned about the process.  The presentation should be prepared in advance and organized.  (Practice running through the presentation so you know you will not run over time.)

In developing the content of your report you will need to briefly introduce us to your topic and any efforts you have made to narrow the focus.  Other material you could include might involve some of the following:

  1. What types of sources seem to be the most useful or abundant so far.

  2. What kind of databases worked best and why.

  3. What kinds of search (index) terms worked best or worked poorly.

  4. What you found that surprised you.

  5. What you discovered about your topic, just from doing searches, that you didn't expect.

  6. Any changes in your topic or focus you made as a result of the search.

  7. Any strategies for doing research on topics like ours that might useful to other members of the class.

  8. etc.

The ideal presentation will be within the time limit, organized with clearly identified points.  It will provide some information to the class that we might not have known before.  Better yet, it will contain information we can make use of.
