Study Guide for the "Major" Quiz

The quiz will be composed of some questions and topics taken from the material described below.  Nothing will appear on the quiz that is not mentioned on this study guide.

  1. Be able to describe the central concept and the key elements in applying EACH of the 6 Ethical traditions we have discussed.

  2. Define EACH of the four traditional English "Libels" of law.

  3. Be able to list and explain at least 4 arguments for freedom of expression found in either JS. Mill's On Liberty" or John Milton's Aeropagitica.

  4. Be prepared to write a two-three paragraph discussion on why we need laws protecting free expression (in America)

  5. Be able to define the following terms:  Common law, statutary law, constitutional law, trial courts, appeals courts, state courts, federal courts, court (majority) opinion, dissenting opinion, concuring opinion, writ of certiorari, stare decisis.
