Virginia Tech seeks M.A. Students in Media and Campaign Communication

The Communication Faculty at Virginia Tech are seeking graduate applications from students who share our interests in exploring communication questions and issues in media studies and strategic campaign communication. While working toward their degree, students have the chance to engage in close mentorship with a talented, involved faculty. We want students who care not only about what they learn but who want to share that discovery with others.

The Virginia Tech Communication Master of Arts program offers advanced study in public and mass communication research from a variety of theoretical and methodological perspectives.  Our students take core classes that introduce paradigmatic assumptions, theories, and the formulation of questions in social scientific and humanistic traditions.  Students become skilled at identifying and using appropriate research tools to answer those questions.  They then select a series of advanced courses that best meet their academic and professional interests in communication research.

Virginia Tech's M.A. in Communication prepares graduates to pursue doctoral studies in communication, research positions in communication industries, and innovative and careers as communication professionals. We have a 100% placement rate for graduates interested in seeking doctoral study.  Those entering professional careers are typically placed as management level communication professionals.  Students have presented research findings to regional, national, and international conferences.

We offer Graduate Teaching Assistantships to exceptional applicants, who receive a tuition-waiver scholarship and a competitive monthly stipend.  GTAs benefit from ongoing seminars to help them to grow and to succeed as instructors.

Interested students show view our website, http://www.comm.vt.edu/index.html  where they can learn more about our program, the graduate faculty, and the Virginia Tech campus and community. For Fall 2012 admission and consideration for graduate funding, the electronic application must be completed by January 15, 2012.
