Release Date: November 14, 2002

MONMOUTH, Ill. — There’s always an excitement about a “world premiere,” and Monmouth College audiences will have the opportunity to see one Nov. 22-24, when “The Stars Will Never Fall,” an original play by junior Tom Hill of Chicago, Ill., is performed.

Performances are scheduled at the college’s Wells Theater on Nov. 22-23 at 7:30 p.m., and on Nov. 24 at 2 p.m. All tickets are $2 and maybe reserved by contacting Bill Wallace at 309-457-2374 or billw@monm.edu. Tickets can also be purchased at the door, and seating is general admission.

“The Stars Will Never Fall” is the story of Kelly, “the girl with the heart of 10 people and the brain of one,” a young woman who has been through the tragedy of her best friend Josh’s attempted suicide.

Through flashbacks, the audience sees moments in the lives of Kelly and Josh, beginning with childhood and ending with the events leading up to Josh’s attempt on his life. We see the joys of young children dreaming and at play, and the fears generated by those who are more interested in tearing down than building up.

Kelly and Josh’s unconditional support of each other suggests that even if our lives are not filled with rainbows, we can deal with setbacks if we believe in the power of love and the human spirit.

“The Stars Will Never Fall” features freshman Kelly Winfrey of Peoria, Ill., in the role of Kelly, and senior Jon Peterson of Huntley, Ill., as Josh.

Wallace is the show’s director and professor Doug Rankin designed the sets. Also involved in the production are costume shop supervisor Jennifer Andrews and associate directors Geoff Edwards, a senior from Granite City, Ill., and Jeanette Nielsen, a senior from Orland Park, Ill.
