MONMOUTH COLLEGE HILLEL

Established in the spring of 1999, MC's Hillel meets occasionally at 1002 E. Broadway to plan activities to encourage the exploration of Judaism and its traditions. It has been a small but active group, open to persons of all faiths. Past events have included Shabbat dinners on campus, group trips to Shabbat services at Temple Sholom in Galesburg, sponsoring speakers, and participation in various campus activities such as the annual homecoming banner contest.
HILLEL'S SHABBAT DINNER - OCTOBER 28, 2005
In the 2000-2001 Academic Year, the Monmouth College Hillel Chapter received two national programming grants. One was for "From Swastika to Jim Crow," a film and discussion of Jewish-Black relations held on January 28, 2001. Jointly sponsored by Hillel International and the Anti-Defamation League, this program included guest speakers from Chicago, IL and Edwards, MS who were brought in to facilitate the discussion. Participants were invited from Monmouth College, Knox College, Augustana College, Bradley University, and Western Illinois University as well as the communities of Monmouth, Galesburg, the Quad-Cities and Peoria in Illinois, and Burlington, IA.
The second grant award from Hillel International helped to fund the Shabbat Dinner and Service on March 23, 2001 in cooperation with Temple Shalom in Galesburg. This program, held on the Monmouth College campus, was open to students from all the colleges and universities noted above as well as the general public. It was held to help create awareness of and appreciation for our Jewish community.
