When Kathleen's long-time feline friend Roy died on November 5, 2001 at the age of 20+, Kathleen was not going to get another kitty.  But a mere 13 days later she learned of a gray “mama cat” who had been living at the Kirkwood, IL Veterinary Clinic for “several months,” after having been dumped there with one of her kittens.  Was this her first litter?  Probably.  How many kittens did she have?  Well, the farmer who got the entire feline family dumped at his place might know, but Kathleen doesn’t have a clue.  The farmer managed to give away all but one kitten; then he took mama and left-over baby to the animal clinic because he was going to be gone for weeks and couldn’t care for them.  As it turned out, when Kathleen went to meet the gray mama cat on November 19th, the kitty had been at the clinic since JUNE!!!  Wisely, mama cat purred like a Mazda when asked if Kathleen could pick her up.  Dubbed Sophia (which means "Wisdom" in Greek), the now joyous gray kitty went home with Kathleen.  After a few short days, Sophia kindly informed Kathleen of her middle name (Grace) while she was exploring her new home, leaping from one high perch to the next, and not knocking anything over!  She brings new meaning to "freeing the captive" and has brought enormous joy to the household she shares with Kathleen.  (Do you KNOW how many places on the internet sell cat toys?)

Sophia is a WILD cat!  She LOVES to PLAY!  How DID the shower curtain

                                                    get in the bathtub?

     As Mark Twain once noted,

"in the eyes of a cat, everything belongs to the cat!"

Imagine my surprise to learn that Sophia LIKES brocolli!

"If you think you're leaving without me, guess again!"

A "Turboscratcher!"  Birdwatching       Nap time!      "What time is dinner?"

"Which one's mine?   Ah, it's such a lovely time of year!  I get to shred things without being yelled at!"

HOW SOPHIA SPENT EASTER 2005:

Graduation presents are nice, too, especially when the people wrap them in colors that set off one's

furry feline beauty...
