How to Start Your Own Religious

or Spiritual Group

Do you have a particular religious or spiritual interest you would like to explore with others?   Do you want to gather with others of your own faith?  Would you like to attend regular gatherings with persons of other faiths, perhaps to discuss ideas you have in common and areas on which you have differing views?  Then do it!  You don't need permission to gather with others.  You don't need permission to hold discussion and fellowship groups.  And, while it is definitely not necessary, if you should choose to become a "recognized student organization," the procedure for doing so is listed in the Scot's Guide.

Sacred Circles The Chaplain is happy to help facilitate the formation of small groups of persons who are interested in exploring the meaning and practice of prayer and meditation.  The first interfaith sacred circle of ten persons met in January, 1999.  In the context of prayer, the members of this group shared experiences and ideas, joys and sorrows.  They accepted one another wherever they were on their faith journeys and moved forward together.  They learned that spirituality is a matter of becoming aware, of "waking up" to the sacred.   As they shared their stories with one another, they increased their awareness of the ways in which God is working in their lives.  Small groups like this have continued to meet over the years as students have taken the initiative to lead them.
