DETERMINING STRUCTURE AND SOURCE OF A PROTEIN

Theory:  Algorithms, such as BLAST 2.0 (Basic Local Alignment Search Tool), can compare novel sequences with previously determined sequences.  It searches nucleotide and protein databases to find regions of similarity between an inputted sequence and the databases.  These similarities can provide insights to the novel sequence’s source, function, and structure.
