GENOVATIONS
DEFINITIONS:
NEUTRACEUTICALS: research into genes that could help to identify ways to develop special foods for individuals to make healthier diets more appealing by improving taste or adding health benefits to your favorite foods.
NUTRIGENOMICS: research to identify those at risk for disease such as stroke, heart attack, and diabetes before symptoms have developed and design a supplement to delay or prevent it's onset. (Also known as Genovations)
HOW IT WORKS:
Scientists evaluate specific portions of the genetic code that vary from person to person. (These are known as single nucleotide polymorphisms or SNP's)
WHAT IT DOES:
Information from the human genome may enable doctors and dieticians to draw up individual profiles of disease susceptibility, and nutritional interaction to design personalized diet plans to enhance nutrition or reduce the risk of disease, based on their genetic profile.
