ROLE OF THE CITIZEN
Living in a Democratic society, "we the people" have the power to control issues such as the misuse of Tommy John surgery and genovations. Our elected officials will serve as the voice but the ideas will be implemented by the citizens of our great country. In deciding these issues, we have to understand that there will be some people for and some people against certain things but it is going to come down to individual moral values. Do we want to live in a society where athletes can pay to become world champions or where we can know (and discriminate on the basis) that someone has a mental or physical illness. I, for one, do not. It is also going to come down to how well is the public informed on the issues at hand. The media will play a major role in informing the public and it should be understood that they must present the bad with the good. If only the benefits of such things as genovations are shown, then it is our responsibility to inform ourselves on the issue. Enrolling in classes such as Biotechnology (the course I am making this site for) will become commonplace in the future because of issues such as these and the need for students and the general public to become educated on the issues surrounding them.
