INTG-412 Citizenship: Alternatives to War This course first examines the causes and the outcomes of three specific wars. Against that background, the class will study non-violent protest movements and pro-active peace and human rights programs, again searching for causes and studying outcomes. The classroom learning will be the product of lectures and films, reaction papers, debates and discussions, quizzes and exams. Outside the classroom the students, working in pairs or groups of three or four, will create and present a project, planned in consultation with the instructor. Possibilities include a policy proposal for an institution, with plans for its implementation; a research project with a particular, articulated goal and final paper; a semester-long internship or service learning project with a journal. |
