The word “Cornucopia”
is derived from the Latin cornu, meaning horn, and
copia, meaning plenty. The lesser Roman divinity of
luck, Fortuna, was often portrayed with a cornucopia in
one hand and a rudder in the other hand. You can see Fortuna on the
silver ancient Roman coin issued by the emperor Gordian III in 239AD
displayed at right.
