CLAS/HIST140 Ancient Warfare and Sport

A study of warfare, sports, and their significant overlaps in the Greco-Roman world. The course will cover all aspects of these major parts of life in the ancient Mediterranean, from Minoans' boars'-tusk helmets and bull-leaping to Romans' tortoise formations and gladiators. Students will have many opportunities to act out battle techniques and take part in sporting events, including the ancient Greek Olympics.
