CLAS-140/HIST-140 Archaeological Methods/Theory

This course is an introduction to the theoretical approaches and field methodologies of archaeology. The goal of this class is to familiarize the student with the history, theoretical frameworks, and the scientific methods with which material culture is collected, investigated, and evaluated. It also examines the subjects studied by scholars and the interdisciplinary approaches to archaeology in the 21st century. Major topics and themes covered in this class include: archaeological theory, excavation and survey, artifact analysis, and ethical practices in cultural heritage.
