Classics Seminar 2nd 1/2 sem Art and Text This course provides a practical and theoretical introduction to the study and interpretation of inscriptions, broadly speaking. We will read and discuss a number of inscriptions (primarily Latin), paying particular attention to their value as historical documents, as evidence for the development of the Latin language, and as literary texts. We will also place importance on understanding the material contexts of the text, such as medium and form. No knowledge of Latin required.
