THEME: "Star Wars" and the Heroic Journey

The theme of CLAS230 Classical Mythology this semester is an examination of the six episodes of "Star Wars" in the context of the myths of ancient Greece and Rome. Particular focus will be placed on the hero journey.

Some of the questions addressed in this course include: What are the characteristics of a mythic hero? How does one become a hero? How are modern heroes different from ancient ones? What is the hero journey? Who is the real hero in "Star Wars," Luke Skywalker or Anakin Skywalker?

This  material has been published on the web by Prof. Tom Sienkewicz for his students at Monmouth College. If you have any questions, you can contact him at toms@monm.edu.
