Anvilhead Theatre started out a few years ago as an improv comedy troupe here at Monmouth College. There were almost a dozen original members; some quit for personal reasons, others quit because it was fashionable, but most of the main players stayed with the troupe generally until they graduated.
As Anvilhead's popularity soared, so did their reputation. Anvilhead has been featured in the Galesburg newspaper- The Register Mail, and the Monmouth newspaper-The Review Atlas. Not to mention the fact that Anvilhead runs the Monmouth College Courier with an Iron Fist!
Most of Anvilhead Theater's shows take place on campus in the Underground Cafe, a quiet place to study and raise a family, or in Scotland Yard. Anvilhead has also had numerous performances in downtown Monmouth ranging from coffee houses to banks. Anvilhead is by no means a Monmouth phenomenon however, the group performs many shows off-campus in venues ranging from college theaters to junior high classrooms to visiting rooms in hospitals.

They were fighting off a tornado at the time, and were getting ready for the Anvilhead production of Tom Stoppard's Real Inspector Hound, which Anvilhead preformed in the Spring of 1999. Anvilhead isn't all improv comedy, oh no. Anvilhead did a full-length play called The Real Inspector Hound in the Spring of 1999. We poured our own money into set construction, costumes, production, etc. After all was said and done, we broke even. In life, that's usually the best you can do.
