DATES OF IMPORTANCE IN APPLICATION PROCESS FOR STUDENT TEACHING CLINICAL EXPERIENCE

2008-2009 ACADEMIC YEAR

The following information is provided to candidates who are potentially eligible to complete the student teaching clinical experience during the 2008-2009 academic year.  Please read through the enclosed materials carefully, paying particular attention to the deadlines and criteria.  If you need assistance or have questions please do not hesitate to contact a faculty member in the Educational Studies Department.

 Admittance Timeline

 October 24, 2007

·        Applications for admittance to the student teaching clinical experience during the 2008-2009 year are distributed and made available. 

November 26, 2007

·        Applications for admittance to the student teaching clinical experience are due in Wallace Hall 209 by 11:30 a.m.

·        Student Teaching Recommendation forms must be distributed by the candidate to faculty members.

 December 27, 2007

·        Student Teaching Recommendation forms are due from faculty members.

 January 2008 — February 2008

·        Candidate data (application, resume, personal & professional background form, application for degree, grade point average, recommendations, aiding hours & field evaluations, incident reports from the Dean of Students’ Office and Assoc. Dean of Academic Affairs) are gathered and reviewed by members of the Educational Studies Department.

·        Candidate will successfully complete an interview with members of the Teacher Education Sub-Committee &/or Student Teaching College Supervisor.  The candidate will be contacted during the Spring 2008 semester to set up this interview.

 March 3, 2008

·        Review of all candidates for admittance to the student teaching clinical experience by the Teacher Education Subcommittee of the Curriculum Committee and admittance of those eligible candidates. Candidates not admitted (deferred) on this date will be reviewed and considered for admittance at each regularly scheduled meeting of the Teacher Education Subcommittee throughout the Fall 2008 Semester.  Candidates for Fall 2008 placement must be admitted on, or before, June 2, 2008. Candidates for Spring 2009 placement must be admitted on or before January 5, 2009.

A completed application packet must be submitted in order to be considered for the student teaching clinical experience during the 2008-2009 academic year.  A completed application packet consists of:

1.  Completed Application for Admission to the Student Teaching Clinical Experience. (Download Microsoft Word file here.)

2.  Resume

3.  Completed Personal and Professional Background form. (Download Microsoft Word file here.)

4.  Completed Application for Degree. (Form obtained from:  http://department.monm.edu/is/forms/Registrar/Docs/appfordegree.doc)

 5.  Completed and reported passing score on the Content Test in area of certification.  For Fall 2008 placement, passing scores mush be on file by April 4, 2008.  For Spring 2009 placement, passing scores must be on file by October 13, 2008.

 6.  Three recommendations from the appropriate Monmouth College faculty ( forms obtained from the display rack outside of the Educational Studies Office WH 209).

  • Content-Area Faculty

  • Faculty member of candidate's choice

 admittance criteria:

The following four (4) criteria must be met at the time of application for full approval to student teach.  In addition, all four (4) criteria must be maintained following admittance in order to retain approval to student teach:

1.         Ethical and Professional Dispositions -

a.   student has a documented record throughout his/her college career of displaying ethical and professional dispositions that demonstrate responsible and mature behavior as outlined in the Educational Studies Department's Dispositions Rubric (included in the APPLICATION FOR ADMISSION TO THE STUDENT TEACHING CLINICAL EXPERIENCE).

b.   student maintains the academic and personal criteria recorded on the departmental recommendation forms at the time of admittance to the student teaching clinical experience..

 2.         Coursework and Tests -

a.   student has completed Practicum II and III with grades of C or higher or complete at least two successful field experiences supervised through Monmouth College with one at the 300-level.

b.   student has completed a minimum of 100 hours of successful field experience.

c.   student has completed all IP or I grades for transcripted coursework prior to student teaching.

d.   obtain and report a passing score on the Illinois Certification Testing System's Content Test for his/her major.  The passing score must be on file by the date outlined in the Application Packet Requirement section above.

3.         GPA -

a.   student has earned and must continue to maintain a minimum of 2.75 cumulative Monmouth College GPA.

b.   student has earned and must continue to maintain a minimum of 2.75 cumulative GPA for all Educational Studies Foundational & Certification requirements (including transferred courses).

c.   student has earned and must continue to maintain a minimum of 2.75 cumulative GPA for all required Content-area/major courses (including transferred courses).

 4.         Paperwork -     

a.   submission of all required paperwork identified in the Application Packet Requirement's section above by the indicated due date.

The Teacher Education Subcommittee of the Curriculum Committee will consider each candidate’s application, based upon the criteria listed above, and approve, conditionally approve or defer the request to be admitted to student teaching clinical experience.
