History Club Constitution

 

Article I Name
The name of this organization shall be the Monmouth College History Club.

Article II Purpose
The purpose of the History Club shall be the following:

Article III Membership & Dues

Eligibility: Membership shall be open to anyone with an interest in history regardless of their major or minor. No person will be restricted because of gender, race, religion, ethnicity, handicap, sexual orientation, age, or class.

Dues: There will be an annual membership fee of $5.00 to be paid by all members. Fees will be collected at the first fall meeting.

Article IV Officers
The offices of History Club shall be President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Events coordinator.

Elections: Elections will be held at the last meeting of the spring semester. Officers will be elected by ballot and the office shall go to the majority cast of each office.

Term: The officer’s term shall last for one year beginning in the spring and ending at the next spring election.

Vacancy: A vacancy in the office of President shall be filled by the vice president. Any other vacancy shall be voted on by the members of History Club.

Absences: Excessive officer absences may be grounds for removal from office. This can be determined by the executive board.

Termination: If a member of the executive board of History Club is not meeting his or her duties (i.e., not attending meetings on a regular basis, not fulfilling the duties of the job description), that person can be removed from the board. The President will inform the Officer in question that he or she is on probation. In the event that the person does not amend his/her behavior, the problem will be voted on by the History Club for removal. The position will be filled by elections.

Article VI Meetings

Meetings: Regular meetings of History Club shall be held twice a month.

Special meetings: Special meetings may be called by the President.

Attendance: Members will be expected to attend ½ of the meetings. Attendance will be taken on a sign-in sheet. If a member knows that they will not be able to attend a meeting, he or she may notify the secretary in advance and the absence will be recorded as excused. After missing two meetings in a row unexcused the member will be asked if they are still interested in being in the History Club. After three absences regardless of whether they are excused or unexcused the member will also be asked if they are still interested in being in the History Club.

Quorum: A majority of the officers as well as a non-executive member of the History Club shall constitute a quorum for the transaction of business.

Voting: The voting body of History Club shall be the entire membership of the History Club with the exception of the President who would only vote if there was a tie.

Voice: The History Club advisors will be allowed a voice but not a vote.

Article VII Advisor(s)
The History Club Advisor(s) shall be the faculty interested in history including but not limited to the history faculty.

The duties of the Advisor(s) are the following:

Article VIII Standing/Special Committees
The President shall have the authority to appoint any special committees and chairs with the approval of the executive board, on an as needed basis.

Article IX Policies
All History Club rules and policies shall be in harmony with those currently established by the College.

Article X Finances

Fiscal Year: The fiscal year of the History Club shall be from July 1st through June 30th.

Contract: The signature of the President and an officer of the College shall be required to bind the History Club.

Checks: All requisitions for checks issued on behalf of History Club shall be signed by the Treasurer and a member of the Student Affairs staff.

Article XI Amendments
This Constitution may be amended by a two-thirds majority vote of the voting members of History Club, provide notice of the proposed amendment has been given in writing at the preceding regular meeting.
