The President and the First Lady were committed to federal support of the fine arts--an idea first iterated by John Quincy Adams. The Roosevelts brought this about with Federal One, a part of the Works Progress Administration. Federal One included the Federal Theater Project, the Federal Writers Project, the Federal Music Project, and the Federal Arts Project. These were not the only projects for artists, however, as you will see when you visit the website from which these photos came: http://www.tfaoi.com/aa/2aa/2aa171.htm
