HIST 290:  Practicum in Archival Work

History 290 is a continuation of History 190, and 190 is a prerequisite for 290.  In this second-level archives class, you will continue the work you began in 190, but will be given the additional task of personnel supervision in that you will be overseeing the 190 students.

During the first week of class, please come see me in my office and we will divide up the 190 students.  You will be responsible for assigning them work (in consultation with me), for assisting them with their jobs, for making sure they are doing things correctly, and in keeping honest track of their hours.  We'll discuss how this works in detail.

Also, ideally, you will be working on your own independent, and larger, project this semester.  We will find a project for you that interests you, teaches you new archival concepts or practices, and that keeps you busy!

The grade in this class comes from your successful oversight of the 190 student(s), your diligent work on your own project(s), and your continual communication with me about both. You must e-mail every Friday to tell me what you and your 190 student(s) accomplished that week.  The email should lay out any problems, archival or personnel-related. Failure to email me every Friday will result in a lowered grade.

We'll take care of any questions you have as they arise.
