Instructions:

#1]  Write an analytical paper about Mary Rogers that makes reference to the class readings from 29 January through 5 February.  Place Mary Rogers in the contextsof what you now know about abortion and work in the early nineteenth century in the United States.  Pay particular attention to the ways the Mary Rogers is described by the author, for example, when the idea of Mary Rogers was more important to public discourse than was the actual woman Mary Rogers.

#2]  On pages 63 and 64, Prof. Srebnick identifies "three distinct narratives:  the 'Tragedy of Mary Rogers,' the 'Murder of Mary Rogers,' and the 'Mystery of Mary Rogers.  Write an essay that explains what she means, and in so doing, show how these three narratives help to explain what Mary Rogers has come to illustrate in the larger narrative of women's history.
