Interviewing the Brides

This assignment will consist of three interviews that you conduct with three generations of brides, and the paper that you write based on these interviews.

Ideally, the brides will be linked in some way--all members of the same family, or all from downtown Chicago, or all Polish-American brides, or something similar so that you have a basis for comparison. Also ideally, the brides will have documents they can show you (and that you can ask about) and that you can use for purposes of comparison.  Even better would be if you could bring them into class to share with us, or to copy in some way to attach to your paper to illustrate your points.

The first half of your paper will tell the stories of your three brides.  The second half will compare and contrast and contexualize your brides' stories with each other AND with the the history that you learn from Dr. Jellison's book. How like the stories in the history book are the stories of the brides you interviewed?  You will not receive full credit unless your paper includes the comparison to America's Love Affair with the White Wedding, so that I know that you read it and understood it.

As you read Dr. Jellison's book, think about questions you can ask all three brides in your interviews.
