Department of Theatre (posted May 15, 2013, revised May 16 & 30, 2013)

The Monmouth College Theatre Department seeks one or more individuals to fill the following positions for 2013-14. Master’s degree preferred; Bachelor’s degree and appropriate professional experience considered.

1.      Scene Shop Supervisor – 20 hours per week, 30 weeks per year – assists with supervising student workers and constructing sets for theatre productions (ongoing, renewable).

1.   Teaching Introduction to Technical Theatre – two courses – four total sections of an 8-week course (repeats each 8-week session in fall and spring) – lecture/lab course focusing on aspects of tech theatre. Will include some evening work (supervising student crews for tech week and performances).

      Teaching Introduction to Theatre (Spring semester, 2014) – two sections of an 8-week course (repeats each 8-week session) – a lecture discussion course offering an overview of theatre history and literature.

Department of Modern Foreign Languages (posted April 19, 2013)

The Department of Modern Foreign Languages at Monmouth College, a private liberal arts college in Monmouth, Illinois, is seeking an adjunct instructor for the 2013-14 academic year to teach elementary Spanish language classes.

We seek a dynamic and collaborative educator with innovative approaches to teaching Spanish language with native or near-native proficiency in Spanish and in English. M.A. in Spanish with relevant teaching experience required. Teaching load is 1-3 courses per semester, with a maximum of 4 total courses for the year.

Department of Communication Studies: Communication Studies Generalist – One-year Appointment (posted March 5, 2013)

Monmouth College, a residential liberal arts college in western Illinois and founding member of the Associated Colleges of the Midwest (ACM) consortium, announces a one-year sabbatical replacement position for a generalist in Communication Studies. The appointment begins in August of 2013.  Renewal is possible depending on funding approval and based on performance.

The successful candidate will be a dynamic colleague willing to work closely with undergraduate students and members of the department.  The candidate will teach sections of the basic communication course (hybrid) required of all students at the college and central to the college’s innovative Communication Across the Curriculum program.  Ability to teach courses such as Media/ PR Writing, Argumentation, or Persuasion is an advantage.  Opportunities to work with the department’s forensics program or teach in the college’s interdisciplinary general education program are possible. 

Required:  Ph.D. or other appropriate terminal degree is required for appointment as a visiting assistant professor. Master’s level candidates could be considered for appointment as an instructor.  A commitment to the liberal arts and an appreciation for the small college learning environment is essential.
