Admission Position (posted 07/03/08)

Monmouth College invites nominations and applications for an admission representative / assistant director of admission.  Responsibilities include, but are not limited to a wide range of recruitment initiatives, managing a recruitment territory with extensive travel to off-campus activities, monitoring and analyzing reports on prospects, making timely response to and continued communication with admission inquiries, interviewing and touring prospective students during campus visits, and assisting with other areas of college admission. 

The successful candidate will be a self-motivated, service-oriented individual with strong  communication skills (listening, writing and speaking) and an outgoing personality.   A bachelor’s degree, valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record are also required. Experience working or learning at a liberal arts college and prior experience in higher education recruitment desired.  Title and salary will be commensurate with experience and responsibilities.

Assistant Director of Greek Life, Leadership and Involvement (posted 05/22/08)

Monmouth College, a Carnegie I-classified private liberal arts college, seeks applications for the position of Assistant Director of Greek Life, Leadership and Involvement.

Reporting to the Assistant Dean of Students, the Assistant Director is a member of the Student Life Staff and responsible for assisting with the overall development, implementation and evaluation of the fraternity system. The Assistant Director is also responsible for the direct supervision of fraternity housing and its house managers, overseeing and evaluating fraternity membership recruitment, IFC and Greek Week, and assisting with the campus-wide leadership development program. The Assistant Director also oversees the Office of Greek Life, Leadership and Involvement, campus service programs and organizations as well as the coordination of student organizations. The Assistant Director will share on-call duties and assist with campus emergencies.

The successful candidate must be able to work in a collaborative environment, possess a working knowledge of student development theory and be committed to its implementation. Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills, a good sense of humor and the ability to work energetically and well with college students are essential. Masters degree in College Student Personnel or related field preferred. Experience in college or university residence life management a plus, but not required. This is a full-time, 12 month, live-in position. Competitive salary and attractive benefit package, including an apartment and in-session board plan. Starting date: July 1, 2008.

Senior Grants Officer (posted 10/12/07 - revised 11/30/07)

Monmouth College, a private, nationally ranked liberal arts college in Monmouth, Illinois, is significantly expanding its institutional advancement program. The college has launched a search to hire a Senior Grants Officer. The position reports directly to the Vice President for Development and College Relations.

Responsibilities of this position include:

1. Cultivate, solicit, and secure major gifts and grants from corporations and foundations. Proactively research and contact corporations and foundations in Illinois, the Midwest, and across the nation that support private liberal arts colleges and have grant-making interests that align with Monmouth College’s mission, goals, programs, and projects. Communicate with officers of these corporations and foundations to discuss Monmouth College initiatives and needs for philanthropic support. Discuss the grant-making priorities and interests of these organizations. Involve the College President, Vice President for Development and College Relations, Vice President for Academic Affairs, and other faculty and staff in these discussions as appropriate.

2. Write gift and grant proposals. Follow the established grant guidelines and deadlines specified by corporations and foundations.

3. Respond to Requests for Proposals from foundations, as appropriate.

4. Assist in the development of grant proposals to federal and state agencies, as requested.

5. Identify members of the Board of Trustees, alumni, and other friends of the college who have relationships or affiliations with corporations and foundations. Strategically involve these individuals in approaches to these organizations.

6. Travel regularly to meet with officers and representatives of corporations and foundations.

7. Write timely contact reports of visits, phone calls, e-mails and correspondence with corporation and foundation officers and representatives.

8. Utilize computer on-line resources, printed directories (e.g. the Foundation Center), and other resources to gather and analyze information about corporate and foundation grant-making programs.

9. Maintain up-to-date files and computer records of corporate and foundation donors and prospective donors.

10. Keep the Vice President for Development and College Relations regularly updated about priority prospects, contacts, proposal development and status, and fundraising results.

Candidate must have:

1. A minimum of a bachelor’s degree and three years of professional experience in philanthropic development, proposal writing, public relations, or a related field.

2. Excellent interpersonal, writing, and speaking skills. Must be able to write clearly, coherently, and concisely.

3. A strong work ethic and attentiveness to detail.

4. Availability to travel and work occasional nights and weekends.

5. Familiarity with, and appreciation for, the role of the small liberal arts college is essential.

6. Ability to maintain good relationships with professional colleagues, alumni, faculty, staff, students, and donors is required.

Senior Development Officer (two positions -- posted 10/11/07)

Monmouth College, a private, nationally ranked liberal arts college in Monmouth, Illinois, is significantly expanding its institutional advancement program. The college has launched a search to hire two Senior Development Officers. These positions report directly to the Vice President for Development and College Relations and will join two senior development officers who were hired recently.

Senior Development Officers travel regionally and nationally to meet with alumni and friends of Monmouth College. They share information about college developments, plans, and philanthropic opportunities. They solicit annual, major, and planned gifts in support of the college. Senior Development Officers are assigned a portfolio of 150 to 200 major gift prospects and several states/regions to travel. Timely communication and follow-up with donors and prospective donors is essential. Senior Development Officers may be assigned additional projects and duties by the Vice President for Development and College Relations.

Applicants must have:

* A minimum of a bachelor’s degree and three years experience in philanthropic development, communications, sales, marketing, or a related field

* Ability to develop good relationships with donors and professional colleagues

* Excellent interpersonal, writing, and speaking skills

* Availability, willingness, and commitment to travel at least one-third of their time (e.g., an average of one full work week every three weeks)

* A strong work ethic and attentiveness to detail
