Create a Hyperlink to a PowerPoint File

Creating a hyperlink to a PowerPoint file is a three-step process. First, you copy and paste the PowerPoint file in your portfolio Web site. Second, you open the PowerPoint file and save it as a Web page. Third, you create a hyperlink to the PowerPoint Web page.

IMPORTANT! Never hyperlink directly to a file that’s on your F: drive (or other drive) or your portfolio visitors will receive an error message when they click on the link. ALWAYS copy the file from your computer, paste it in your portfolio Web site, and then create a hyperlink to the PDF file that's in your portfolio Web site!

Step 1: Copy and Paste a PowerPoint File into Your Portfolio Web Site

  1. Right-click on the PowerPoint file and select Copy.

Copy Option

  1. Right-click on the top folder in the FrontPage Folder List and select Paste.

Paste Option

  1. If necessary, right-click on the file that you just pasted, select Rename, change the file name to all lower-case letters and add hyphens between words (e.g., group-presentation.htm).

IMPORTANT! Be sure to leave the .htm extension on the file name.

Step 2: Open the PowerPoint File and Save It as a Web Page

  1. In the Folder List, double-click on the PowerPoint file to open it.
