Data

Sort Data

  1. Click on any cell in the column by which you want to sort. (For example, if you want to sort by state, click on a cell in the State column.)
  2. On the Home tab, click on Sort & Filter and select Sort A to Z or Sort Z to A.

Copy Data Down a Column or Across a Row

  1. Click on the cell that contains the data that you want to copy.
  2. Position the mouse pointer over the fill handle until it becomes a solid cross Cross Cursor and drag the fill handle down the column or across the row.

Create a Number or Date Series

  1. Type a number or a date in the cell where you want the series to begin.
  2. Position the mouse pointer over the fill handle until it becomes a solid cross Cross Cursor.

  1. Drag the fill handle down the column or across the row.
  1. Click on the Auto Fill Options Auto Fill Options Button button down arrow and select Fill Series.

Split a Column of Data into Two Columns

  1. Insert a new column to the right of the column that you want to split. (To insert the column, right-click on the letter of the column to the right of the column that you want to split and select Insert.)

  1. Highlight the column that you want to split. (To highlight the column, left-click on its column letter.)

  1. On the Data tab, click on Text to Columns.

  1. Under Original data type, make sure Delimited is selected.

Delimited Option 

  1. Click on the Next button.
  2. Uncheck the Tab checkbox.
  3. Put a checkmark in the Space checkbox.

  1. Click on the Next button.
  2. Click on the Finish button.
