Create a Hyperlink to a Page in Your Web Site

  1. Create and save the web page to which you want to link (this can be a blank page).
  2. Type some text on the page for the hyperlink (e.g., Home, About Me, etc.).
  3. Select/highlight the text.
  4. Right-click on the highlighted text and select Hyperlink.

  5. Select the web page to which you want to link.

  6. Click on the OK button.

Create a Hyperlink to a Page in Another Web Site

  1. Select/highlight the text that you want to make into a hyperlink.
  2. Type some text on the page for the hyperlik (e.g., Home, About Me, etc.).
  3. Right-click on the highlighted text and select Hyperlink.

  4. In the Address field, enter the full address of the web page to which you want to link (e.g., http://www.monm.edu).

  5. Click on the OK button.

Create an E-Mail Hyperlink

You can create an e-mail hyperlink by typing an e-mail address on a web page and pressing the Enter key.

If you want to create an e-mail hyperlink out of other text, such as Contact Me, then follow the directions below.  

To create an e-mail hyperlink out of text:

  1. Type some text on the page for the hyperlinke (e.g., Contact Me).
  2. Select/highlight the text.
  3. Right-click on the highlighted text and select Hyperlink.

  4. Under Link to select E-mail Address.

  5. In the E-mail address field, enter the e-mail address (e.g., jdoe@monm.edu).

  6. Click on the OK button.

Create a Hyperlink to a PDF File

Note: To create a .pdf file out of a Word 2010 document or PowerPoint 2010 file, open the file, click on the File tab, select Save As, and select PDF from the Save as type drop-down list.

To create a hyperlink to a .pdf file:

  1. Right-click on the .pdf (or other file) and select Copy.

  2. In Expression Web, right-click on the top folder in the Folder List (the one that begins with http://) and select Paste.

  3. Make sure you see the .pdf file in the Folder List.

  4. If the file name of the .pdf has any spaces in it, then right-click on the .pdf file in the Folder List, select Rename, and use hyphens or underscores to separate words. (Links to files that have spaces in the file name will not work.)

    IMPORTANT! When you rename a .pdf file, be sure to leave the .pdf extension on the end of the file name. Otherwise, the link to the .pdf file will not work.
  5. Type some text on the page for the hyperlinke (e.g., Resume).
  6. Select/highlight the text.
  7. Right-click on the highlighted text and select Hyperlink.

  8. Select the .pdf file that you want to link to.

  9. Click on the OK button.
    Note: To test the link, click on the Preview Preview Toolbar Button toolbar button.

Set a Hyperlink to Open in a New Window

  1. Right-click on the hyperlink and select Hyperlink Properties.
  2. Click on the Target Frame button.

  3. Select New Window.

  4. Click on the OK button.

Change the Hyperlink Colors

  1. Right-click on the web page and select Page Properties.
  2. Click on the Formatting tab.
  3. Click on the Hyperlink, Visited hyperlink, and Active hyperlink down arrows and select the desired colors.
  4. Click on the OK button.
