Where to Save Files on the F: Drive

When you are using a MC lab or office computer, you should save your files in your My Documents folder on the F: drive. For more information, see Saving and Backing Up Files.

Space Limits

Students have 100 MB of storage space for their files on the F: drive.

Faculty and staff have 10 GB of storage space for their files on the F: drive.

If you get close to your limit, then you may having trouble saving files to the F: drive or you may not be able to save to the F: drive at all. Other problems may occur if your F: drive space starts to get full. (For example, you may not be able to save messages in an Outlook personal folder.)

If you have having trouble saving to the F: drive, then the first thing you should do is check your space usage. For more information, see Check Your F: Drive Space Usage.

Keep Your F: Drive Space from Filling Up

To keep your F: drive space from filling up, you should periodically delete files you no longer need and/or move some of your files to another location (e.g., your G: drive, Google Docs, an external hard drive, etc.) or burn them to a CD or DVD.

IMPORTANT! Your G: drive is NOT backed up, so DO NOT store important files on it.

Check Your F: Drive Space Usage

To check the amount of available space on your F: drive, double-click the Computer icon on your desktop. The amount of available space appears underneath your F: drive.

Note: To convert kilobytes to megabytes (MB), divide the total number of Kbytes by 1024 (1024 Kbytes = 1 MB).

You can access your F: drive files from any computer that has Internet Access. For more information see Remote Access.
