End-of-Semester Moodle Procedures


Overview

At the end of each semester, you should:

  • Back up your Moodle course(s) and save a copy of the backup files(s) on your computer. For more information, see Back Up Your Course(s).
     
  • Download your gradebook(s) to Excel and save the Excel
    file(s) on your computer. For more information, see Download Your Gradebook(s) to Excel.
     
  • Make your course unavailable to students. For more information, see Make Your Course Unavailable to Students.

Back Up Your Course(s)

To back up a course and save a copy of the backup file to your computer:

  1. In the Administration block, click on Backup, shown circled below.

  1. At the bottom of the page, click on the Continue button, shown circled below.

  1. Right-click on the backup file that you just created and select Save Target As, as shown circled below.

  1. Save the backup file to the desired location on your computer.

Download Your Gradebook(s) to Excel

To download a gradebook to Excel and save the Excel file to your computer:

  1. Open the gradebook.
     
  2. On the View Grades tab, click on the Download in Excel format button.
     
  3. Click on the Save button, shown circled below.

  1. Save the Excel file to the desired location on your computer.

Make Your Course(s) Unavailable to Students

When you make your course unavailable to students, your course will be hidden to students on the main Moodle page, but not to you or Moodle administrators.

To make your course unavailable to students:

  1. In the Administration block, click on Settings, shown circled below.

  1. Click on the Availability down arrow, shown below, and select This course is not available to students.

  1. Click on the Save changes button.

Reuse a Course Next Semester

If you want to reuse a course, then you must request a new Moodle course at http://www.monm.edu/moodle.htm. Then, after the new course has been created, the Information Systems Center will import your old course content into the new course. (Currently, a system bug will prevent you from importing course content yourself.)

Import Content from Another Course

If you want to import course content into another course, then the Information Systems Center will need to import the course content for you. (Currently, a system bug will prevent you from importing course content yourself.)
