What is Moodle?

Moodle is a web-based course management system that has been installed on the Monmouth College network to enhance teaching and learning.

Faculty can use Moodle to post syllabi and other course documents, keep track of grades, create online quizzes, and more.

How do I access Moodle?

  1. Open a web browser and go to the Monmouth College home page (http://www.monmouthcollege.edu).
  2. Click on the Campus Quick Links down arrow and select LMS - Moodle.

How do I request a new Moodle course?

  1. Open a web browser and go to the Monmouth College home page (http://www.monmouthcollege.edu).
  2. Click on the Campus Quick Links down arrow and select LMS - Moodle.
  3. On the left side of the main Moodle page, click on the request form link.

  4. Fill out and submit the form. You will be notified via e-mail when your course is ready (usually within 24 hours of your request).

How do I change the course format to Topics?

  1. In the Administration block on your course home page, click on Settings.
  2. Click on the Format down arrow and select the desired format.
  3. Click on the Save changes button at the bottom of the page.

How do I add more week or topic sections to my course?

  1. In the Administration block on your course home page, click on Settings.
  2. Click on the Number of weeks/topics down arrow and select the desired number of week or topic sections.
  3. Click on the Save changes button at the bottom of the page.

What is the largest file size that can be uploaded to my course?

Currently, the largest file size that may be uploaded to your course is 100 MB.

Do I need to back up my course?

Yes! For more information, see Backing Up Your Course(s) and Gradebook(s).

Can anyone enroll my course?

By default, anyone with a Monmouth College user name and password can enroll in your course. If you want to restrict enrollment to the students who are registered for your course, then you can use an enrollment key. (For more information, see Create an Enrollment Key.)

How do I give a colleague at another school access to my course?

  1. In the Administration block on your course home page, click on Settings.
  2. In the Enrolment key field, enter a password (if you have not done so already).
  3. Click on the Guest access down arrow and select Allow guests who have the key.
  4. At the bottom of the page, click on the Save changes button.
  5. Send the password to your colleague.

What do I need to do with my course at the end of the semester?

At the end of a semester, you should backup and hide your course. For more information, see Backup a Course and Gradebook and Hide a Course.
