Add an Extra Credit Activity

If you want to add an extra credit activity to your course, then you'll need to create a new activity for it, create an Extra Credit category in your gradebook, assign the extra credit activity to it, and adjust the values on the Set Grade Letters tab. Directions are below.

  1. Create the extra credit activity and add it to your course home page. (This can be an offline assignment for which students do not need to upload files.)

  2. Create a new category in your gradebook called Extra Credit and assign the extra credit assignment you created to it.

  3. Check the Extra Credit checkbox across from the Extra Credit category.

Note: Checking the Extra Credit checkbox causes the extra credit points to be excluded from the course point total.
  4. After you assign the extra credit assignment to the Extra Credit category, you may see an error on the View Grades tab in the Letter Grade column that says, “No Letter grade for …” To fix this, click on the Set Grade Letters tab and increase the High value for A to accommodate the highest possible points student could receive with extra credit. (For example, if the High value for A is set to 100 and your students can receive a maximum of 20 extra credit points, then change the High value to 120 or 125.)
