Troubleshooting for Faculty PDFs Don't Display If PDF files don't display in Moodle, then try resetting Internet Explorer's settings. Directions are below.
You Can't Enter Text in a Texbox If you are using Internet Explorer 9, and you can't click the mouse
in a textbox to enter text, then try clicking the Compatibility
Mode button and try again. Moodle Does Not Display Properly in Internet Explorer 8 If Moodle doesn’t display properly (e.g., Moodle is stretched
out all the way across the browser and you have to scroll to
access the right part of the page), then click on Internet
Explorer's Compatibility button to fix it. You Are Prompted to Log In When Opening an Office File The Information Systems Center is currently investigating this issue. Please check back again soon. In the meantime, click the Cancel button on the log on window and the file should open. You Can't Print an Office File Opened from Moodle If you can't print an Office file that you opened from Moodle, then try adding Moodle to the Trusted Sites list in Internet Explorer. Directions are below.
Text Changes to Symbols When Copied and Pasted from Word Due to a size limit, the HTML editor in Monmouth College's version of Moodle does not handle large amounts of text or text copied and pasted from Word very well. (This is especially true of tables copied and pasted from Word.) If some of the text changes to symbols after you copy and
paste it from Word, then you can try selecting all of the pasted
text in the HTML editor and then click on the Clean Word
HTML button. If clicking the Clean Word HTML button doesn't fix the problem, or if you or your students need to enter a lot of text, then consider linking to Word documents or having your students submit Word documents instead. Internet Explorer Blocks File Downloads from Moodle (Internet Explorer 7) By default, when you attempt to download a
file from Moodle, Internet Explorer will block it and display the
Information bar, shown circled below. To download the file, on the Information bar, click on Click here for options and select Download File. If you want to turn off automatic blocking of file downloads from Moodle, then you can add http://lms.monm.edu to your list of trusted web sites in Internet Explorer. Note: If you do not have the Microsoft Office program needed to open the file, then you'll need to download a free viewer from Microsoft. Links to the PowerPoint, Word, and Excel viewers are below. * You must also install the Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007 File Formats to view Word 2007 and Excel 2007 files. name Is Missing from List of Potential Users in Assign Roles If you can't find a name in the list of potential users on the Assign Roles page, then please contact Marcie Beintema at x2194. Can't Edit or Delete a Calendar Event If the Edit and Delete tools, shown circled below, are
missing from calendar events, then try logging out of Moodle and logging
back in. If that doesn't do the trick, then please contact Marcie
Beintema at x2194. Due Dates Do Not Appear on the Calendar If you've added activities to your course that have due dates, but the due dates don't appear on the course calendar, then make sure that the activities are not hidden. (Due dates for hidden activities do not display on the calendar.) You Can't Delete the News Forum If you are using the Weekly course format, then you must go into the course settings and change the News items to show field to 0. Then, you should be able to delete the News forum. (For more information, see Delete the News Forum.) Gradebook Says "No grades returned" Your gradebook will display "No grades returned" when you do not have any students enrolled in your course and/or you do not have any graded activities added to your course. Once you enroll students and add at least one graded activity, you will be able to open your gradebook and view student names, etc. Gradebook Says "No grade letters set" If your gradebook says "No grade letters set," as shown circled
below, then click on the Set Grade Letters tab and click on the
Save Changes button. When you return to the View Grades
tab, the letter grades should appear. The letter grades in the gradebook are wrong. If you are not using weighted grades, then you can keep letter grades in synch with point totals by hiding the Uncategorized category and assigning all of the course activities to it. Then, create another category called Graded and assign an activity to it only when you are ready to enter grades for it.
