Your Default Printer
When you log on to a lab computer, your default printer automatically
changes to that lab's printer. (For example, if you log on to a computer
in Trotter lab, then your default printer will change to the Trotter lab
printer.)
IMPORTANT! Faculty and staff members will
need to remember to change their default printer back to their office printer when
they
return to their office.
Change Your Default Printer
- Click the
Start button and select
All programs - Computer Assistant.
- On the
Printing tab, under
Installed Network Printers, click the printer that you
want to use for your default printer.
Note: If the
printer that you want to use is not listed under
Installed Network Printers, then double-click it in the Available Network Printers list on the right side of the window.
- Click the Make Default button.
Connect to a Printer
Faculty and staff may print to any of the networked printers on campus.
Students may print to lab printers.
To connect to a printer:
- Click the
Start button and select
All programs - Computer Assistant.
- On the
Printing tab, under
Available Network Printers, double-click the printer to
which you want to connect. The computer appears in the Installed
Network Printers
list.
Turn Off Print
Notifications
- Click the Start button and select
Settings - Devices and Printers.

- Click the printer.
- Click Print server properties.

- Click the Advanced tab.
- Uncheck the Show informational notifications for network
printers checkbox.
- Click the OK button.
Turn Off
Duplex Printing for a Single Print Job
- In a MS Office program (e.g., Word, PowerPoint, etc.), on the File tab, click Print.
- Under Pages, click the Print on Both
Sides down arrow and select Print One Sided.

- Print the document.
Turn Off Duplex Printing for All
Print Jobs
- Click the Start button and select
Devices and Printers.

- Right-click the printer or copier for which you want to turn
off duplex printing and select Printing Preferences.
- Click the Finishing tab (for HP printers) or
the Basic tab (for Kyocera copiers).
- Uncheck the Print on both sides
checkbox.
- Click the OK button.
Turn Off Grayscale Printing (HP Color Printers)
Printing from Microsoft Office 2010 Programs
- Click the File tab and select Print.
- Click the Color down arrow and select
Grayscale.

Printing from Other Programs
- On the Print window, click the
Properties button.

- Click the Color tab.
- Uncheck the Print in Grayscale checkbox.
- Click the OK button.
