Terminal Services

Overview

Terminal Services provides faculty and staff with remote access to the Monmouth College network.

When you log on to a Terminal Services session, a desktop appears that is similar to your office computer's desktop. From this desktop, you can access all of your files on the F: drive, many of the network-installed programs, your Outlook personal folders, plus all of your Internet Explorer favorites.

If you have Windows XP or Vista, then you can use Remote Desktop Connection to log in to Terminal Services. (For more information, see Log On to a Terminal Services Session.)

Note: Mac users must download and install the Microsoft Remote Desktop Client for Mac in order to log in to Terminal Services. (For more information, see Download the Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection Client for Mac.)

IMPORTANT! When you are finished using Terminal Services, you must log off of the session. Otherwise, any files that were open when you closed the session will be locked for editing when you try to access them on your campus computer. For more information, see Log Off of a Terminal Services Session.

Log Off of a Terminal Services Session

IMPORTANT! You must log off of your Terminal Services session before closing your browser widow. If you do not log off, then your Terminal Services session will remain open, and any files that were open when you left the session will be locked for editing when you try to access them on your campus computer. (If you forget to log off, then call the Information Systems Center at x2106.)

To log off of a Terminal Services session:

  1. Click on the Start button and select Log Off [your user name].

Note: If the Start menu is not visible, then press Alt + Home to display it.

Disconnecting from a Session

If you become disconnected from a Terminal Services session, then you should be able to log back on and access the same session, unless you had to re-dial to establish a modem connection. If you do not access the same session when you log back on, then call the Information Systems Center (x2106).
