When two or more people share an office phone, a special type of
voice mail greeting called an “office directory call handler”
is used.
The office directory call handler lists the names of the people who
work in the office and allows the caller to select
the person that they want to reach. For example, a typical office
directory call handler might announce, “Hello, you have
reached extension 1234. For [name of first person], press 2. For
[name of second person] press 3.”
Faculty and staff who share an
office phone should designate a person to script and record
the office directory call handler. The designated person should then
call the Information System Center at
x2106 to
arrange a time to stop by and record it.
Note: If your name needs to be added to an office
directory call handler, then the person
responsible for recording it should call the Information Systems
Center at x2106 to
arrange to record a new one that includes your name.
