Logging On, Logging Off, and Shutting Down Logging OnThe first time you log on to a campus or office computer, a brief process runs that sets up your e-mail. DO NOT press any keys on the keyboard or click the mouse during this process. To log on to the network, press the Ctrl + Alt + Delete keys at the same time and enter your Monmouth College user name and password. (The first time that you log on, the password is zebra. Once you enter this password, the system will prompt you to change it. When you create a new password, keep in mind that passwords are case sensitive, must be least 5 characters in length, and should be unique. For more information, see Passwords.) Logging OffYou should log off of your computer when you are going to be away from it for an extended period of time or before you log in to another office or lab computer. (Problems may occur if you are logged in to two or more office or lab computers at the same time.) To log off, click on the Start button and select Log Off. Shutting DownYou should shut down your computer each night. Shutting down minimizes the chance of damage to your computer that could be caused by lightning during thunderstorm season. Also, shutting down causes the nightly backups to be more reliable and saves energy and money. To shut down your computer, click on the Start button and select Shut Down. |
