Electronic / online collections
Online databases
Online databases are central to modern library research. They index a vast and ever-growing array of scholarship, and in many cases provide full-text articles and digitized images. Hewes Library is committed to expanding our electronic collections, and recognizes the need for constant user education.
Some of the databases to which we subscribe are suitable for general and multidisciplinary research, but most are tailored to specific disciplinary needs. For assistance in choosing the right online products, visit us or contact a librarian.
Visit our Databases main page for a list of databases currently accessible through the Library website. Please note that not all products are available from all locations, and that passwords or a trip to the Library may be necessary.
E-journals
While most databases provide access to selected portions of periodicals, e-journals provide the entire content direct from the publisher. Some e-journals are created and maintained solely in an online form, and some are full-text or digitized copies of print issues.
E-books
Hewes Library currently subscribes to NetLibrary, an online service that provides entire books in full-text format.
Also, reference sources such as Grove's Dictionary of Art and the Encyclopedia of Life Sciences have been completely retooled for use online.
