The Sound of 5 has a rich history and tradition at Monmouth College. The group originated as a jazz/pop group with instrumentals under the direction of Dr. Richard Griffiths.

After a break of about six years, the group has been revived as an A Cappella style group that specializes in jazz/pop music without any instrumental accompaniment, just voices and vocal percussion. However, the group will occasionally appear with the Monmouth College Jazz Band.

Though there are more than five singers in the ensemble, we have maintained the traditional name for history’s sake. The ensemble is made up of students that sing in the Monmouth College Chorale and they rehearse on their own time, as this ensemble is not a registered course.
