
The program for the general music major includes:
MUSI 121, 122, 221, 222 - Theory of Music I,
II, III, and IV;
MUSI 125, 126, 225, 226 - Aural Skills I, II,
III, and IV;
MUSI 321, 322 - History and Literature of Music I
and II;
MUSI 420 - Independent Study;
At least one course chosen from:
MUSI 203 - Evolution of Jazz,
MUSI 301 - Introduction to Conducting, or
MUSI 302 - Form and Analysis;
Eight semesters of applied music;
Enrollment in a Music Department ensemble
during each semester the student is on campus.
Attendance at campus concerts and recitals is required.
Music majors are required to demonstrate competence on the keyboard by
passing an examination in functional piano. The major should consult with the
department for additional policies.
The culminating experience for music majors is an independent study in the
senior year consisting of an in-depth investigation of a topic chosen by the
student in conjunction with the advisor.
