
Music majors who concentrate in performance must take an additional eight
credits of applied music in their major instrument and present a half recital
before the end of their junior year and a full recital before the end of the
senior year. Other requirements for the general major apply.
Requirements for the Music Minor
The minor in music is designed for those students who wish to develop both
their performance skills and their general understanding of music. The minor
requires:
Two courses (in sequence) chosen from:
MUSI 121, 122, 221, or 222 – Music Theory I, II, III, IV
One course chosen from:
MUSI 203 - Evolution of Jazz
MUSI 301 - Introduction to Conducting
MUSI 302 - Form and Analysis
One course chosen from:
MUSI 321 - History and Literature of Music I
MUSI 322 - History and Literature of Music II
Four credits in applied music (including two credits in piano if not the
major applied instrument)
Four credits in:
MUSI 134 – Men’s or Women’s Choir
MUSI 181 – The Monmouth Chorale
MUSI 182 – String Ensemble
MUSI 184 – Concert Choir
MUSI 185 – Wind Ensemble
Attendance at campus concerts and recitals is required each semester.
