Tim Pahel is an Assistant Professor of Music and is the Director of Choral and Vocal Activities at Monmouth College. His duties include directing the Monmouth Chorale and Concert Choir, teaching private voice, conducting, and courses in the music education curriculum. Prior to coming to Monmouth, he served as Assistant Professor and Music Coordinator at Carl Sandburg College and also taught courses and directed ensembles at Knox College.

Mr. Pahel is the director of the Galesburg Community Chorus, and with that group has conducted works including, most recently, Handel’s Messiah, Mozart’s Requiem, Orff’s Carmina Burana, and Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms. He is also a member of Nova Singers, a small and highly select professional choir made up of singers from western Illinois and eastern Iowa.

Pahel holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin, a Master of Music degree from the University of Illinois, and is currently finishing his doctorate at the University of Iowa, where he studied conducting with Dr. Timothy Stalter. While a student at the University of Iowa, he conducted Camerata, one of the University’s auditioned choral ensembles.

An active member of the American Choral Directors Association, Music Educators National Conference, the Illinois Music Educators Association, and the National Association of Teachers of Singing, Pahel is a frequent adjudicator for high school solo and ensemble contests as well as a clinician for large group contests and festivals.
