Tim Pahel is an Assistant Professor of Music and is the Director
of Choral and Vocal Activities at Monmouth College. His duties
include directing the Monmouth Chorale and Concert Choir, teaching
private voice, conducting, and courses in the music education
curriculum. Prior to coming to Monmouth, he served as Assistant
Professor and Music Coordinator at Carl Sandburg College and also
taught courses and directed ensembles at Knox College.
Mr.
Pahel is the director of the Galesburg Community Chorus, and with
that group has conducted works including, most recently, Handel’s
Messiah, Mozart’s Requiem, Orff’s Carmina Burana, and Bernstein’s
Chichester Psalms. He is also a member of Nova Singers, a small and
highly select professional choir made up of singers from western
Illinois and eastern Iowa.
Pahel holds a Bachelor of Arts
degree from Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin, a Master of
Music degree from the University of Illinois, and is currently
finishing his doctorate at the University of Iowa, where he studied
conducting with Dr. Timothy Stalter. While a student at the
University of Iowa, he conducted Camerata, one of the University’s
auditioned choral ensembles.
An active member of the
American Choral Directors Association, Music Educators National
Conference, the Illinois Music Educators Association, and the
National Association of Teachers of Singing, Pahel is a frequent
adjudicator for high school solo and ensemble contests as well as a
clinician for large group contests and festivals.
