(Re)Orientation Program for Student Comments Twenty three students (eight from Coe and fifteen from Monmouth) attended this program along with five faculty from both institutions. Students were asked to evaluate this program and make suggestions for improvement. Here are their comments. -Good points: The organization of this kind of meeting is very useful for the student who is going to go abroad for study. And the idea of changing the email is very good. It can also help from them, and enable them to have a contract. -Weak points: certain things (video) was too long. -The personal stories were very country specific. It was entertaining but maybe not so applicable to my specific exchange. Food was good, people were fun. -This orientation program definitely helps students with advices. More videos from specific schools countries would be more helpful. Also, I think it would be more helpful to get expert students who were in Asia of Africa. -I thought this was way too much info for one day. And the movie was really old and bad. Keep the program but spread it out. -This was a good idea even if it could be improved with the presence of people which went to the different places concerned (France, ESGCI, Japan, etc) -The program was helpful as far as questions that were for specific programs with the students that were here. -I think the students who had been abroad enjoyed reflecting on their study abroad. -Try and get more students who have been to Asia, because Europe and Asia, obviously are different. -No break necessary, get the day done quicker. The movie was pretty bad, but it made good points. -I think that this is a much better program than last year. It was very beneficial and much more casual. It definitely brought back some good memories of my trip. -Very good thing to exchange ideas and information. Although the movie we could have skipped. Interacting with international students and people going abroad for the first or second time is a lot more interesting and fun and you get as much information as in the movie. -Provide the international student with info about where to go if you need Health or Medical info. Not only to the student Health Service. Organize some trips for the international student. And think about spring break or fall break where we can stay, $80 for us does not seem fair, where else could we go….. -Good program, definitely more applicable for students going overseas on exchange, but it was nice to chat with the exchange students, brings back memories! -I think that it was a great day. I hope that those people who are going overseas will learn a lot from other cultures. This kind of orientation program is very helpful. In my case, my school didn’t help us much, we had to do everything by ourselves. -The program was very useful. Comment from students who have studied abroad cleared up many thoughts, especially small details like what to bring etc. The movie is becoming dated, but is still useful, albeit long. -This was a very good and interesting experience. I just hope I could have done something similar in Greece, before I came here. P.S. Next time just serve some Greek food too! (Just Kidding) -That day was very interesting, I think we had the opportunity to learn a lot. Maybe you could for next year prepare this meeting with questions everybody would have prepared in advance. |
